MACC Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Carmine is born in Scicli with a historic solo exhibition by Emilio Isgrò

MACC, the Carmine Museum of Contemporary Art, will be inaugurated in Scicli on May 5 with an extraordinary exhibition by Maestro Emilio Isgrò.

Restored thanks to funds from the 1990 Earthquake Law and a grant from the Ministry of Culture, the former Carmine Convent will host for the occasion an extremely rich anthology by Maestro Emilio Isgrò entitled The Work of the Ants.

To the north of Scicli’s urban center are the church and adjoining convent of the Carmine, one of the most beautiful complexes in the late Baroque architectural culture of Iblea. The church, its façade and the eastern wing of the convent were designed by the architect Friar Alberto Maria di San Giovanni Battista, a Carmelite of the strict observance who resided in Scicli in the same convent, as revealed by art historian Paolo Nifosì in his book “Scicli una città barocca,” 1997, Il Giornale di Scicli editions.
